Bahamas

First discovered by Christopher Columbus, the Bahamas are located just 50 miles from the coast of Florida. This group of 700 islands is awash with tropical palm trees, pristine white, sandy beaches drenched in sunlight and multi-coloured coral reefs. Gently cooled by the occasional sea breeze, the Bahamas are a firm favourite on the international tourist trail for the selective and well-heeled traveler in search of rest and relaxation in lush surroundings.

A strong economy, no corporate or income taxes and a stable political history have been key in making these English-speaking islands, especially the better-known larger island of Gran Bahama, a haven for international business and development.

An all-time favourite of American "jet-setters" taking advantage of this slice of paradise virtually on their doorstep, this stunning tropical playground has a growing worldwide appeal due to accessibility via the Freeport International Airport as the world becomes a smaller place due to lower cost and greater numbers of international flights.

Gran Bahama

Grand Bahama is the fourth largest of The Islands of The Bahamas, originally named by Christopher Columbus as "gran bajamar". Largely uninhabited until the 1950s, it has since established itself as a world-class cosmopolitan hot-spot attracting thousands of overseas visitors, yet still retaining the charm of an old fishing village. Investment in property developments which are sympathetic to the local surroundings is ensuring the availability of much needed accommodation and also retaining the integrity of The Islands.

Idyllic beaches, emerald clear water and tropical climate are only half the story, The Island is also home to the world's largest underwater cave systems, three national parks, tennis facilities and numerous golf courses. The elegant capital of Freeport Lucaya, specifically designed to attract tourists, is one of the most popular destinations in the Bahamas boasting wide tree-lined boulevards, unbeatable world-class duty-free shopping, the International Bazaar and a casino. As is to be expected in the tropical oasis, a selection of water sports are high up on the agenda including deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling or an exhilarating swim amongst the dolphins and sharks. It is also possible to take a guided tour of the unique Deadman's Reef. Alternatively, relax, unwind and just soak up the heady atmosphere.

This is the definitive holiday destination with a distinctively refined 5 star glamour yet with the laid back charm that only island life can offer.
